There were times during this episode when I just giggled or laughed out loud, a couple of times I even yelled, "Oh, come on! Really? You're gonna go there?" Most of the time I was bored and underwhelmed with the sentimentality, that was coated with high fructose corn syrup-and the melodramatic tears, and those slow takes, and those slow moments, and those slow frames from the camera work! Really, one of weakest episodes in direction history.Įpisode 11, once again, couldn't disappoint by following the "Curse of Episode 11." Where the main couple "has to break up" because this and that. The writing in this episode is so over the top that I felt I was reading freshmen class screenwriting treatments.Īnd just when I thought it was over Episode 10 comes in to become the most sentimental and cheesy episode I've ever seen in a series, and that includes all the Mexican telenovelas I was forced to watch when growing up. What started like a very good episode (with Aoey being a complete shit!-more about that later), ended with so many revelations, problems, crisis, and left curves, that instead of feeling emotionally attached I was completely disappointed because I wasn't allowed nor couldn't really commit to one single crisis or character. It felt like the writers watched all the KDramas they could watch and all the Mexican Telenovelas (soap operas) they could muster, and then decided to put into one single episode every melodramatic trick they could possible pack into the one-hour plus episode. because they are just not strong enough to be engraved in my memory, but mainly because episode nine happens.Įpisode 9 started to become my favorite episode, by the end, though, I was so exhausted and frankly very disappointed. After Episode 6, the next two episodes are sort of there, I'm sure something happened but they have been deleted from my memory the way Gene deletes many of his manuscript lines. Yes, the couple isn't toxic and apparently writers can't create dramatic action without toxicity. Gene's discovery brings some much needed dramatic action to the boring interactions between Sib and Gene. I like to suspend my disbelief but this stretching it too much. The writers tried to justify it a little by saying that Sib changed his last name because his father didn't approve of his acting, which apparently adds to forgetting that you once were very emotionally attached to a young person. Why? This is never explained but we learned that Gene was very attached to the young Sib yet somehow the years have erased him from his memory. Luckily we get to Episode 6 where Gene goes to visit his family and his "aunt" and discovers that Sib is in fact his childhood best friend, someone Gene couldn't remember. Yes, there are a few scenes that are interested but overall, there are four episodes of "nothing new under the sun" filled with cliches as Sib tries to get it on with Gene. Then comes episode two though five, which are pretty much nothing knew and boring as they can be. Episode one made me laugh out loud because about 95% of what happens during the audition happens in real life auditions, etc. In the case of Lovely Writer, you are watching a series about a group of artists and producers creating a BL Drama titled BAD ENGINEER.Īs someone who loves this type of writing technique I was excited to see the series. And in case you don't know, meta theatre is when you are watching a story within a story. You've been warned.Īs someone who writes for the stage it is always nice to see shows where they implement meta theatre as a writing technique. Also, this is a very long review because there is a lot to discuss about this series. If you have not seen the series be warned that I will be given details about the plot and characters in order to support my views on the show.
